Giving Where it Counts

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

All of us here at the Conant Family Foundation welcome you to contribute to organizations that continue to make abortion accessible.

We have carefully evaluated all of the organizations below and can attest to their effectiveness and compassion. They are all nonprofit.

The red "DONATE HERE" links will take you to online donation pages that ensure 100% of your contribution goes directly to the organization. Most also include options for mailing a check, donating stock, or giving through Paypal or other apps.

Abortion Care Network is the national association for independent community-based abortion care providers and allied organizations.

"Together we work to ensure the rights of all people to experience respectful, dignified abortion care."

ACN is the only organization in the nation dedicated to the unique needs of independent abortion care providers and the communities they serve. Independent abortion care providers care for the majority of people seeking abortion in the US, often serving individuals and families with the fewest resources and in the most rural parts of the country. Carafem provides abortion services, birth control counseling and provision, and abortion follow-up care. Carafem also provides at-home abortion pills via secure video consultation and discreet mailing in Illinois and other states.

"Many people live in states that have restrictive abortion laws or a low number of providers. You may choose to travel to a neighboring state for a short video visit and to pick up abortion pills at a discreet location, all with 24/7 medical support at your fingertips."

All fees are posted on their website and care is patient-centered. Located in Skokie near Old Orchard. DONATE HERE

Chicago Abortion Fund provides financial, logistical, and emotional support to people seeking abortion care in Chicago, in Illinois, and the Midwest. CAF's mission is to advance reproductive autonomy and justice for everyone. Building collective power and fostering partnerships for political and cultural change are priorities.

"In the first three months of 2022, over 80% of our grantees came from out-of-state. We regularly hear from over 500 people a month seeking support accessing care and we return 100% of our calls. We support people through our relationships with over 55 clinics in 7 states across the midwest."

CAF also lists Chicagoland resources for childcare, counseling, housing, and birth control. DONATE HERE

CHOICES: Carbonale Center for Reproductive Health is both the newest and southernmost abortion clinic in Illinois. It is a sister clinic to CHOICES Memphis, which was forced to stop providing abortions over the summer due to Dobbs and the Tennessee trigger law.

"Our abortion clinic serving Carbondale, Illinois provides patient-centered medical care and champions sexual and reproductive rights. CHOICES envisions a world where sexual and reproductive healthcare is recognized as an essential human right."

CHOICES Memphis began planning this site a year ago, anticipating a growing need from states surrounding Illinois. Conant Family Foundation's executive director visited the new clinic in October. The facility and the staff are utterly professional, welcoming, and compassionate. Donations can be earmarked for either the Carbondale or Memphis site (Memphis continues to provide midwife-staffed birthing as well as gender-affirming care). DONATE HERE

Midwest Access Coalition (MAC) is a practical abortion fund that helps people traveling to, from, and within the Midwest to access a safe, legal abortion. Besides providing safe lodging and transportation, MAC also defrays the costs of transportation, gas, food, medication, and childcare. They are a small but mighty team of staff and volunteers!

"Our volunteer hosts help eliminate the costly expense of staying in a hotel, by assisting with lodging. It is our goal to make your stay go as smoothly as possible and our hosts have been trained to provide support based on their guests’ unique needs." DONATE HERE

SASS: Self-Managed Abortion, Safe & Protected The goal of SASS is to ensure that people in the US can get accurate, up-to-date information about how to self-manage an abortion with pills safely, with dignity, and with minimal legal risk. If a person wants to use abortion pills to end an unwanted pregnancy, with or without a clinician, SASS's website provides information about how to do that.

"Misoprostol, used alone or in combination with mifepristone, is a safe and effective way to end a pregnancy in the first 12 weeks. It is approved by the World Health Organization as a safe abortion method for use with or without a clinician and has been used successfully by millions of people around the world."

Conant Family Foundation's executive director participated in a SASS training to learn how to share information about self-managed abortion. We can confirm that the organization has been doing this work long before the Dobbs decision and will continue to be a key source of accurate information for women in all states. DONATE HERE
